In this scenario, a platform built by the Sunni Future Movement is making use of excess airspace over a shorter Meronite Church building to develop into a small market, prayer hall, and food court. The different needs and constraints of the parties involved cause structural misalignments, formal juxtapositions, and spatial idiosyncrasies. The project is imagined as a palimpsest of chronologies. Each element, when produced, sets off a ripple effect of accomodations and confrontations, with each party trying to take advantage of the others’ infrastructure while simultaneously defending their own.
A resident complains about the prayer hall that stole her view. She must deal with the noise of a market she does not ever shop at. She makes use of the structure that crowds her window to hand her laundry out to dry.
